About.
Warmest greetings!
I am Andrea Hernandez Rodriguez and my pronouns are she/her. My name is pronounced Ahn-dray-ah or you can call me Annie. I am a mom, partner, and lover of humanity.
I’ve been growing giving as long as I can remember — it’s how I make sense of and move in the world. I am also always growing my practice and learning how to move in ways that cause less harm and spread more compassion and love.
I grew up experiencing a lot of change, some welcome most not. I learned early to make choices, some healthy and others not, about how I let those changes effect me. I believe we are all worthy of making changes for freedom. And, that we shape those changes through continually learning and growing.
I have over two decades of practice in nonprofit and foundation management, organizing, capacity building, and systems change. Social change efforts I’ve led and supported in family foundations and nonprofits have been shared in the New York Times, nationally and locally televised, and published in field articles and books. I previously served as the executive director for the Frieda C. Fox Family Foundation and led the national development of Youth Philanthropy Connect.
I am the first in my family lines to complete a PhD. Along with a social justice-centered PhD in Leadership and Change from Antioch University, I have been trained in secondary education, asset-based community development, appreciative inquiry, trauma responsive care, psychological first aid, somatic abolitionism, nonviolent communication, and conflict transformation practices, including Immunity to Change.
I openly explore and honor spirituality and healing practices, including oracle, sound, and somatics. Singing and music has always been important to me.
My husband, George, and I are the proud parents of Marcelo. You can usually find us adventuring near water or in the woods with our Australian Shepherd, Ellie.
Looking back, my community organizing has always focused on...
Equitable access and increasingly racial justice
Food justice and care for the land
Respecting and celebrating culture, art, and creatives
Advocating for youth, rural, and LGBTQIA+ inclusion
Growing leadership, spirituality, and healing
